Snow!
February 4, 2010
Lest we think we are in control, the weather will often remind us that we are decidedly NOT! It seems that quite a bit of snow will fall in Lynchburg, VA on Friday, February 5. The opening scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed until Friday, February 12, 6:00 – 8:00, and the artists’ talks will be at 11:00 a.m. on February 13. Come if you can!

Play
December 2, 2009
Although art-making is serious stuff, it is also critical to approach it with a sense of play (proving my theory that almost everything in this life is shadowed by paradox and contradiction!). Working on the assemblages has offered an opportunity to play with materials that I have been itching to use for years. What a delight to experiment with putting unexpected materials together and be surprised by their chemistry (a process which supports another theory that art-making and scientific research are, in fact, first cousins)! Here are two new pieces that come from play.
Quartet
Point
These pieces are at Astra Design, 3110 W. Marshall Street. Tom and Louise will host a Holiday Open House at Astra on Saturday, December 5, 9:30 – 4:30. Stop by to see new work by Tom and Louise and their group of guest artists.
In the meantime, make some time to play… you never know what you might discover!

Freedom From Impediment

Nippon
One thing leads to another. Working on assemblages has involved playing with different materials including a very thin lokta paper which is interesting to stain and layer. These two collages will be in the THINKSMALL5 show, a fundraiser for artSpace and art 6 which opens Friday, November 6 at both galleries.
