Miracles!

Everyday Miracle

After a brief blog absence… another assemblage. This is a small piece (6 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ at the base ) called Everyday Miracle: Attachment. It began with the shell cum attachment* (see note below), a contribution from my friends Catherine and Rob (of Coloratura ).  The subsequent evolution of the piece was a surprise to me!  Of course, this was the case!  How could I have forgotten that this would be true; it always is!  Ah yes…  yet another lesson in learning to surrender to the work.  The title is a reference to one of my most favorite poems, “Miracle Fair” by Wislawa Szymborska in Wislawa Szymborska: Poems New and Collected (it is easy to find this one on the web and well worth the effort!).  A photo only gives the general idea of this piece;  it really needs to be seen in person.  This will be possible in February 2010 at Rivermont Studio in Lynchburg, Virginia (yes, a postponement from the original schedule of this month – for those of you who may have known).  Look for more info here as the time draws near.  In the meantime, I’ll continue to share bits, pieces, parts, wholes, thoughts, and images here.

*Note:  I think the attachment is a red alga, but my old botany books are not specific enough to help me with this.  If there are any phycologists out there who can help, I would love to get an ID on this one!  Better images are available.
